My problem was not creating the reply but how to post my reply since there is no "Post" button to click on. "Click the blue "Reply" button below our replies, not the blue "Start a discussion" button." So, you connect using one of those options, turn the ASUS PA248Q on, turn the XPS 8940 on, t hen open the PA248Q OSD menu and choose the chosen port. XPS 8940 HDMI out port -> HDMI to HDMI cable -> ASUS PA248Q HDMI in port XPS 8940 DP (DisplayPort) out port -> DP to DP cable -> ASUS PA248Q DP in port The ASUS PA248Q has the following onboard video IN ports = Your XPS 8940 tower on the back top has the following onboard video OUT ports above the four blue USB ports = So the ASUS VGA to VGA cable and VGA port do not apply to your XPS 8940. Your XPS 8940 doesn't have a video VGA out port. "Yes the monitor worked fine on my old Dell computer with a VGA connection." * Reconnect only the power cable to the ASUS monitor * Press and hold in its power button for 8 seconds * Disconnect every cable from ASUS monitor including its power cable The monitor sets there in standby mode.Ĭlick the blue "Reply" button below our replies, not the blue "Start a discussion" button.ĭo you mean the ASUS PA248Q monitor? You wrote PA48Q. The menu button on the monitor works fine when the monitor is connected to my old computer via a VGA connection and I believe the menu button would work on the XPS if the computer recognized the monitor. I believe the rep is wrong because I think it is the computer that does not recognize the monitor. The Dell rep I talked to said my monitor is bad because it wouldn't recognize the computer and the menu button won't open the menu. And it doesn't work for activating the monitor. Lacking the lower horizontal panel of ports, I plugged my HDMI cable into the only HDMI port I have, the one on the left upper side of the tower.

From what I've read, if my computer has a discrete video card the HDMI cable is supposed to be plugged into the HDMI slot on the horizontal panel, not the HDMI slot on the upper left part of the tower. The back of my computer does not have the horizontal panel of ports on the lower part of the tower, the panel just above the power plug. The Dell guy says my computer is built properly and the problem is my Asus monitor.Īnyone have any suggestions how to get the computer to recognize the monitor. I thought they forgot to put the panel in. My computer does not have that horizontal panel with 4 ports.

The computer on the brochure shows a horizontal panel with 4 ports, one being an HDMI port, on the lower half of the computer. When I got the computer yesterday it included a brochure that shows how to connect the monitor. I read online that the HDMI cable has to be plugged into the graphics card port, not into the HDMI slot on the upper part of the computer, where Dell told me to plug it in. The reason the menu doesn't work for the new computer is because the computer has no recognized connection with the monitor. The menu works fine on my old Dell Computer. It is the computer that has the problem.ĭell said my monitor was bad because the menu won't open. They said if my monitor worked ok on my old computer that the monitor was ok. I thought it was the reverse of that, that the computer doesn't recognize the monitor. Dell says my monitor is bad because it doesn't recognize my computer. The computer doesn't recognize my ASUS monitor. I bought new Dell XPS 8940 computer and connected it to the monitor via HDMI cable. It works fine on my old Dell computer via a VGA cable.

This is not considered an NVIDIA driver bug.I have an ASUS PA48Q monitor. Since this string is too long to be displayed fully in the NVIDIA Control Panel, it is truncated which is why you will only see the name 'Ancor Communications' or smaller depending on the size of the window.

In the case of certain Asus LCD monitors, the name is generated as: 'Ancor Communications Inc.' + 'ASUS "model number". The display name is extracted directly from the EDID. The manufacturer name is determined from the manufacturer ID in the EDID and the corresponding entry in Microsoft's PnP table. NVIDIA's policy is to generate names based on the following template: 'Manufacturer Name' + 'Display Name' Asus stores this information in the internal EDID of their LCD monitors.

in some of their PC line of LCD monitors. Asus uses LCD panels manufactured by a company named Ancor Communications Inc. Most LCD monitor manufactured for PCs use LCD panels which are manufactured by a company other than the maker of the monitor itself. This is expected behavior with select LCD monitors from the LCD maker Asus.
